Mahmoud El Safadi

Lebanon

Multidisciplinary artist and filmmaker Mahmoud El Safadi examines the intersections of urbanism and the natural world in the context of an accelerating, increasingly networked and globalized society. Working across a variety of mediums from video to sculpture, installation to online, his works seek to create poetic forms that emerge from deeply researched socio-political subjects and materials.

El Safadi’s work has been presented in exhibitions at the 32nd Salon d’Automne, Sursock Museum, Beirut (2016); 4th Aflam International Festival of Arab Cinema, Marseille (2016); In the heart of the heart of another country, ArtBOX, Thessaloniki and Beirut (2016); Immersion, Al Ma’mal Foundation for Contemporary Art, East Jerusalem (2016); Exposure 7: Mobility, Beirut Art Center (2015) and A Museum of Immortality, Ashkal Alwan, Beirut (2014).

El Safadi participated in the Home Workspace Program, Ashkal Alwan, Beirut (2014–2015). He holds a BFA in film and video production, new media and history from York University, Toronto (2010).
