Institut Français en Égypte à Alexandrie
Housed in a 19th-century palace, the French Institute of Egypt in Alexandria is considered one of the main cultural places in the city. The French Institute is involved in the cultural sector as well as in the teaching of French, guidance for candidates wishing to study in France, cooperation with the city’s bilingual schools and the training of teachers. It regularly organizes cultural events open to all, cooperates with many Alexandrian cultural actors and facilitates joint projects between Egyptian and French cultural actors. Its program is rich and diversified (concerts, theatre and dance, exhibitions) and shows a willingness to open up to young Egyptian talent. Finally, its media library offers a collection of books in French and Arabic and proposes many activities around books while organizing conferences throughout the year.
For its implementation directly in the city and its extensive expertise in mapping activities on Alexandria’s cultural heritage, the French Institute Alexandria will be a contact point and enable to co-organize events in Alexandria. The inclusion of the French Institute will reinforce the communication and dissemination in Egypt and create links with the EU cultural institutes in Egypt and the EU Delegation in Cairo. The institute will host debates and an exhibition related to the caravan residency outcomes, with participating artists, local artists and students.
